Information You Submit
A name, phone number, or address entered in a search form is sent to the third-party provider that supplies its results. Our servers do not retain a copy of those searches. A message sent to us contains only the information included in that message and is used to respond.
Automatically Collected Data
Hosting services keep standard logs, including IP address, browser type, pages requested, and timestamps. We review that information in aggregate for performance and readership patterns. Cookies or similar technology can support basic analytics and, where applicable, advertising measurement.
What We Do With This Data
We use this data to operate the service, address technical issues, measure traffic, and improve its references. We do not sell visitor lists or create individual visitor profiles.
Links to Other Websites
Links lead to county and state portals, library collections, archives, and third-party search services. Information submitted to those destinations is governed by their own privacy rules. The same is true for sponsored search results supplied by another company.
Who Might See Your Data
Hosting and support providers process logs on our behalf. Analytics and advertising partners may receive the automatic data described above. We disclose information only when valid legal process requires disclosure.
How We Protect Your Data
The service uses an encrypted connection, and logs are retained only for the purposes described above. No visitor accounts are offered, so the service does not maintain a visitor password or profile.
Users Under 18
This reference is intended for adults and is not aimed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If a minor has sent us information, contact us so it can be deleted.
Your Information Choices
You may ask about access, correction, or deletion of personal information the service keeps. Research for this project did not identify an enacted comprehensive North Carolina consumer-privacy statute; public-record access is instead governed by record-specific laws, including the North Carolina Public Records Act, Chapter 132, and vital-record, election, and Address Confidentiality Program protections. Because the service keeps little information, requests normally concern a contact message or log. Use the Contact page. A government record must be corrected or restricted through its actual custodian.
